There’s something about Memorial Day that feels different.
Yes… there are backyard barbecues, sunshine, garden centers overflowing with flowers, and the unofficial kickoff to summer (which you know I fully support with iced coffee in hand and beach thoughts already loading).
But underneath all of that… Memorial Day carries a quieter feeling too.
A pause.
A remembering.
A moment to honor those who served and sacrificed for our country and the families who carry those stories and losses every day.
And if I’m being honest, I’ve always felt Memorial Day is about more than a long weekend.
It’s about memory.
And memory… well… that connects deeply to what we do as creatives.
Because creativity has this beautiful way of helping us hold onto things that matter.
Not perfectly.
Not formally.
Just honestly.
Maybe that looks like painting flowers that remind you of someone you miss.

Maybe it’s creating a junk journal page with old photos, ticket stubs, recipes, postcards, or handwritten notes tucked inside.
Maybe it’s pulling out papers, paint, or scissors and simply giving yourself space to feel something you haven’t had words for yet.
That’s one of the reasons I believe so strongly that art and paper crafting are more than hobbies.
They become little containers for memory.
Tiny creative moments that say:
I was here.
This mattered.
This person mattered.
This feeling mattered.
And Memorial Day reminds me of that.
I think about how many stories live quietly inside families.
Military service stories.
Stories of sacrifice.
Stories of courage.
Stories of loss.

And sometimes those stories are told around tables.
Sometimes they live in photographs.
Sometimes they live in silence.
And sometimes… creativity becomes the bridge.
A painted flag.
A scrapbook page.
A journal entry.
A handmade card.
A page filled with memories and messy glue and imperfect handwriting.
No fancy supplies required.
No artistic talent test at the door.
Just the willingness to create something that feels meaningful.
You know this is where my heart lives.
Helping women create joy through art, paper crafting, and creative self-care has never really been about perfection for me.
Start journaling and memorializing your days and family and friends
It’s about connection.
Connection to ourselves.
Connection to others.
And sometimes… connection to the people and memories we never want to forget.
This Memorial Day, I hope you enjoy the sunshine, the food, the family, and maybe even a little creative time too.
Maybe you create something inspired by remembrance.
Maybe you pull together a memory page.
Maybe you paint.
Maybe you simply sit with a journal and a quiet cup of coffee.
Because creativity doesn’t always need to be loud or productive.
Sometimes it’s simply a gentle way of honoring what matters.
And honestly?
That feels pretty beautiful to me.
Wishing you a peaceful Memorial Day and sending love to all who carry memories of loved ones who served.
Until next time—
