Can you believe it's August already?
Do you get the end of summer blues?
Next thing you know we're going to be buying pumpkins, drinking pumpkin spice everything, and wearing bullky sweaters!
Where did the summer go?
I have always gotten the blues or downright depressed at the end of summer. I have always loved summer. I have the best memories of growing up near the beach and endless summer days of swimming and bike riding. If you are confused right now, I am a woman of a certain age and I grew up in the 1970s!
The 1970s were a great time to be a kid but we didn't know it. I know it now.
I enjoyed the summers with my two girls. We spent a lot of time at the beach, bike riding and crafting. Our summers were always special.
No school.
No homework.
No activities but we kept to a schedule anyway.
I recently had a conversation with daughter #2. She is home from Costa Rica for a few weeks and leaves soon. I love having her home but her leaving in August will just contribute to my depression. I asked her if she remembers our summers as she was growing up. She did and she also has great memories. Although, she wondered why I got sad in the end of August.
It's because:
- I love summer
- I love the beach
- I love sunshine
- I loved having my kids home
- I loved a more relaxed routine
I hated that this all would come to and end but most of all I dwelled on ALL that we DID NOT get to do!!! Yes- that is right. Our days were full, our evenings were full. We enjoyed our summer to the fullest and yet at the near end of August I would become so sad by the summer ending and all that we had not done.
My kids had no idea what WASN'T and only what WAS!
Why do we do this to ourselves. Why do I still allow the end of summer blues to take over? Why do I get in a rut?
Does painting help? of course!!!! is it a cure? No way! but it does help!
