True Crime Meets Creativity: Make Your Own Junk Journal Folio

If you've been around here for a while, you already know I love two things:

• True crime stories (the investigation side—not the creepy serial killer glorification)

I love mysteries, detectives, clues, old newspaper headlines, case files, evidence logs, vintage documents, and all those fascinating little details that make you feel like you're solving the mystery yourself.

So I thought...

Why not combine that with junk journaling?

One of the things I love most about junk journaling is that there is no "right" way to do it.

Seriously.

Want to tear the paper?

Do it.

Want perfectly trimmed edges?

Go for it.

Ink everything.

Ink nothing.

Layer five papers together.

Use one simple tag.

Print it twice.

Mix it with pages from another journal.

Turn the tags into bookmarks.

Use one page for a scrapbook layout.

Cut it apart.

Leave it whole.

There are no Junk Journal Police coming to your house.

Creativity should feel relaxing—not like another assignment.

Layering Is Your Best Friend

If I could give one junk journaling tip to beginners, it would be this:

Layer everything.

Don't overthink it.

Put patterned paper behind another piece.

Add a small tag.

Stick on a ticket.

Tuck something inside a pocket.

Tie ribbon through a tag.

Before you know it, you've created something that looks wonderfully vintage and collected over time.

The little imperfections?

Those are part of the charm.

Why I Love Creative Projects Like This

Life gets busy.

Really busy.

Between work, family, responsibilities, laundry (why is there always laundry?), appointments, and everything else...

our brains rarely get a chance to slow down.

That's why I keep encouraging women to spend just a little time creating.

Not because we're trying to make museum-worthy masterpieces.

But because creating gives our minds a chance to breathe.

Cutting paper.

Choosing colors.

Adding ribbon.

Playing with layouts.

It all becomes a quiet little escape from the noise of everyday life.

And I think we all need more of that.
