Hey there, creative friend —
Let’s have a little heart-to-heart!
Here’s something I’ve learned (the hard way) after years of paint-splattered jeans, unfinished art projects, and endless inspirational ideas:
The problem isn’t creativity. It’s confidence.
We all have that creative spark. Yup, even you, the one who says “I can’t draw a stick figure.” (Spoiler: I bet you totally can, and you’d probably even give it a cute hat.)
But creativity? It’s not a lightning bolt moment or a fancy degree.
It’s a process. A messy, glorious, trial-and-error, paint on your shirt, glue-on-your-fingers and “oops I painted out of the line” kind of process.
And guess what it really takes?
-
Practice.
-
Patience.
-
A willingness to show up.
-
And the courage to do it scared.
I literally have those words — do it scared — scribbled on an unfinished page in one of my art journals. And let me tell you, that page is inspiration in its raw, unfiltered honesty. Because it doesn’t have to be finished to be meaningful. Neither do you. Neither do I. and I am not just talking about arts and crafts. We are all a work in progress from birth to... well you know.
For years, I felt unworthy of calling myself an “artist.” I’d shrink back when someone asked what I did. I’d say “Oh, I just paint,” or “I'm a decorative artist.” Like I had to earn the right to say I was a creative. Like someone was going to pop out from behind a curtain and say, “Nice try, ma’am. You’re not a real artist.”
Now? I don’t even blink an eye and I don't care. Now I say "I paint and teach painting and creating to others. I’m an artist. Full stop. Paint in my hair and everywhere else and joy in my soul."
So if you’re sitting there thinking you’re not good enough, or creative enough, or brave enough — I want you to borrow some of my belief until you feel your own. Fake it til you make it. Try things out. Experiment.

Create something today. Not because it’s perfect.
Not because it’s ready for Etsy or Instagram.
Create it because your soul is asking for a moment of joy.
A break. A breath. A splash of color on a gray day.

And when you do?
Do it scared. Do it messy. Do it anyway.
You are creative.
You are worthy.
And you absolutely belong in this beautiful, paint-splattered, sticker-covered, paper-clipping, joy-making world of art.
With love and a little dried paint on my shirt,
Teresa
